A few hours ago Techcrunch announced a new Xioami wristband - Mi Band 2. That's definitely a thing that the market was waiting for and I am pretty sure that Fitbit managers should pay lots of attention to their competitors. Why? First, the price. Mi Band will cost you just $23. You can see the huge difference in the price right here: As you can see the cheapest Fitbit wristband will cost you at least $80, which is almost 4 times higher than Xiaomi's one. It tracks your steps, monitors your heart rate and (for the first time) features a tiny display. Almost all the functions that Fitbit has. Fitbit also has the calorie measure, but I have a question to Fitbit wristband owners: do you still want to put all your meals into the app? At some point of time it becomes annoying. Gartner forecasts that 274.6 million wearable electronic devices will be sold worldwide in 2016, an increase of 18.4 percent from 232.0 million units in 2015. Sales of wearable electronic devices will generate revenue of $28.7 billion in 2016. Of that, $11.5 billion will be from smartwatches. As you can see, the market of wristbands is supposed to grow and I completely agree with it. I think that the market is waiting for two things: 1) cheaper solution; 2) more advanced system. At the moment, Xiaomi meets the first market need, the most important one. As for the second requirement, I think that the next step would be an automatic calorie intake. For example, one of such wristbands is HealBe, but there are more questions than answers about their wristband. Here is a few pictures of this wristband: And to be honest, I consider buying this wristband. I used to have the first version, now want to buy the new one. The only disadvantage they have - the previous version had a smart alarm function, now it's gone. I do really miss that feature, but I am pretty sure that they will fix it soon. Well done, Xiaomi, can't wait to test this device.
